The countdown has begun for Samsung’s upcoming One UI 8 update. The South Korean tech giant recently released the third beta for the Galaxy S25, signaling that the stable version is closer than ever. Plus, the update seems to bring new features for users to keep their devices safe.
One UI 8’s new ‘Alert Center’ feature will make devices more secure
Samsung is developing a new feature called “Alert Center” for the One UI 8 update to improve user security. It will likely appear under Settings > Security and Privacy Alerts.
Android Authority has spotted some code snippets for the feature in the internal One UI 8 build. According to the report, Alert Center will provide real-time suggestions and warnings. It will support two types of alerts: privacy alerts and security alerts.
If an app accesses your camera while it’s not in use, the new feature will kick in and alert you. The same applies when apps access your messages or microphone without your permission.
These alerts will display something like, “The ABC app accessed your camera.” In short, if an app accesses sensitive places, such as the camera, while not in use, it will be exposed by the Alert Center. This will allow you to review the permissions you’ve given to such software and revoke them if necessary.
That said, the feature will offer advanced security alerts. For instance, if you haven’t updated your phone or Google Play components for a long time, it will detect this and even provide a button to help you update them easily.
The new feature is a key safeguard against increasingly common Trojan apps, which can steal user data in the background while appearing to work normally.
When will Samsung release the stable version?
Samsung is making a major change with the One UI 8 update. The company has been focusing its major Android releases on its flagship Galaxy S series devices until now.
However, this year, it will turn its focus to foldable phones for the first time. In other words, unless there are any last-minute changes, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, which will be introduced on July 9, will come pre-installed with Android 16-based One UI 8.
The rollout will start shortly after the event. The Galaxy S25 series will be the first to receive the update. Then, the flagship models that the company has introduced in the past years will be in the game. After a while, the distribution will start for entry and mid-range devices.
