Along with the Google Pixel 10 series smartphones, Google also announced the Tensor G5 processor. That is the long-awaited TSMC-made Tensor chip. It’s made using the latest 3nm node from TSMC.
The Google Tensor G5 delivers the biggest leap in performance yet
Now, Google did not reveal all the details about the Tensor G5, but we did get bits and pieces to get the idea of what we’re dealing with. Google does claim that this is the biggest leap in performance yet, as far as Tensor chips are concerned.
What do we know? Well, the Tensor G5 does bring a 60% more powerful TPU (Tensor Processing Unit). On top of that, Google claims that the chip is 34% faster on average, as far as CPU goes.
It comes with an upgraded ISP for images and video
The company has also upgraded ISP (Image Signal Processor) inside the chip. That should go towards improved images and video that the Pixel 10 series offers. It will be interesting to see what’s new, as the hardware didn’t really change.
Google also claims that this chip delivers the most advanced on-device AI on any smartphone out there. The Tensor G5 will deliver over 20 on-device generative AI experiences, based on what the company said.
The company also claims you’re getting an industry-leading security and privacy here. The Titan M2 security co-processor is a part of the offering, in case you didn’t know.
The Exynos 5400 modem is probably used… again
We’re still not sure what modem Google used here, but it could easily be the Exynos 5400 again. That modem proved to be great in the Pixel 9 series, so it wouldn’t surprise us if Google went with it in the Pixel 10 series too.
Google also claims that the latest Gemini Nano model running on this chip is 2.6x faster and twice as efficient than what the Tensor G4 offered on the Pixel 9 series.
That’s basically what we know thus far. The Tensor G5 does seem compelling on paper, though it’s still far behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Dimensity 9400 in terms of sheer power. Some benchmark results proved as much. Many would say that it really doesn’t matter, but it’s worth noting nonetheless.
