Turn your audiophile cans into a PS5-ready headset with Sennheiser’s latest gadget

Sennheiser HD 500 Bam Microphone

Consider this scenario – you’re a gamer who also really loves music and audio, so much that you consider yourself an audiophile. You like the availability of gaming headsets out there because of their built-in mics, but they just don’t scratch the itch for high-quality audio like a pair of nice headphones does. Sennheiser is coming up with a solution to that problem. It’s launching the Sennheiser HD 500 BAM Microphone, which is a boom mic for audiophile headphones.

Now, you could easily pair a nice set of audiophile headphones with a standalone mic. Lots of people do this for streaming or just general gaming. However, that means you need either a microphone arm or you need to take up extra space on your desk for the mic to sit. With the Sennheiser HD 500 Bam mic, you can plug the mic right into the headset and have everything in one contained unit. This can be ideal for several reasons, not the last of which is saving space. Another reason this might appeal to you is the fact that controls are all on the microphone wires. You get a volume wheel for adjusting volume, and a mute button for muting yourself whenever needed. The mic retails for $59.95, which might seem spendy, but it works with a variety of Sennheiser headphones. So there’s some versatility there.

The Sennheiser HD 500 Bam microphone works with several different pairs of headphones

If you have a pair of Sennheiser headphones but you’re worried this mic won’t be compatible, there’s good news. The mic works with quite a few different pairs of Sennheiser headphones. Specifically, those in the HD 500 series, and then the HD 620S as well. The full list of compatible headphones includes the HD 505 Copper, HD 505 Gold, HD 550, HD 559, HD 560S, HD 569, HD 579, HD 599, HD 599 SE, and the HD 620S. It won’t work with any headphones outside the Sennheiser brand.

It does, however, work with several different platforms. This includes PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X. It also works with Apple computers and the Samsung USB-C headphone jack adapter. The microphone comes with a fairly long 5-foot cable, which is actually nice to have because you know you’ll have enough slack for it. The HD 500 Bam microphone is on sale from September 23 and is available directly from Sennheiser and authorized retailers.
